4 cadres held of Kangpokpi case

IMPHAL | Apr 21

Four renegade cadres of Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) were arrested today who were involved in firing at oil tankers at S Golai in between Kangpokpi and Changoubung last Tuesday.

In relation to this a press meet was held at office of L M Khaute, director general of police (DGP), Manipur.

Speaking to media persons, Khaute said that the four KRA cadres were arrested at around 4 am this morning by a combined team of Kangpokpi, Imphal East and Imphal West district commandos led by superintendent of police, Kangpokpi, H Balram Singh and commandos of Imphal East and Imphal West led by additional superintendent of police (Ops) Imphal East and officer in-charge K Meghachandra, commando Imphal East inspector B Lunthang Vaiphai from Kangpokpi.

The combined team was able to seize five mobile handsets and nine SIM cards from their possession. With a special intelligence input last night they were able to arrest them from a rented house from Kangpokpi bazar this morning.

The four KRA cadres were identified as self-styled sergeant major, finance in-charge, Demminthang Haokip alias Stephen, 38, son of Ningthoujam Gobardhan Singh of Kangpokpi ward number 12, self-styled lance corporal, Sagoupal Baite alias Lalboi, 30, son of Lhunjang Baite of L Lhangnom village, Saikul sub-division, self-styled private Hengoulen Haokip alias Haosapa alias Yago, 18, son of Jangmang Haokip of Satang Kuki village, Saikul sub-division and self-styled private Thanglanmoi Chongloi alias Calvin, 30, son of Kaikam Chongloi of Taphou Kuki village.

On further investigation police found that they were involved in the firing case in association with suspected KNF (N) cadres, kidnapping of drivers and detention of vehicles belonging to betel leaf traders for extortion and exploding IED, at house of the betel traders in association with KCP (Lalheiba),tariff collection at Hengbung check post, extortion from goods laden vehicles along National Highway-2, firing at Satyam Industry with the intention for extortion and firing at passenger vehicles at Hengbung for non-compliance of their demands.

LM Khaute further mentioned that the arrested persons that they worked in association with non signatory organisations like KCP (Lalheiba) and KNF (N) in taking up the pre-judicial activities including extortion with an understanding to share the extorted amount.

Demminthang Haokip alias Stephen is a notorious and has been chasing by police for involvement in various crimes activities, he added.
