Reflect ethos of state in films: Dy CM

Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar in his chief guest speech, today called upon the film enthusiasts to represent and reflect the ethos, philosophy and the dissolving values of our tradition and culture in the films, during the Cine Artistes and Technicians’ Association Awards 2017.
The event took place at Manipur State Film Development Society Palace Compound which was organised by the Cine Artistes and Technicians’ Association (CATA).
The evening was marked by honouring the contribution of venerable pioneers of Manipuri Cinema in the field of film direction/production and acting respectively and by felicitating Award Winning film professionals and extraordinary achievers of the present generation in the field of cinema.
During the event Joykumar also announced an award instituted by Karam Memorial Trust run by his wife titled “K. Manomohan Singh Lifetime Achievement Award in Manipuri film.” The award consists of prize money of Rs 1 Lakh, a trophy and a certificate. The award will be given every year on the eve of death anniversary of Karam Manmohan Singh.
Aribam Shyam Sharma, the eminent film maker said, our state has no less talent than any parts of the world, at the same time training is much more important in this competitive world. This will sharpen their talent.
Applauding government’s initiative for establishing of Film and Television Institute he added, the journey of the film has been 45v years and it’s a high time to re-think how far we have achieved and what can be done to make it success.
He again urged to include “film” as a subject among the syllabus arts, music and dance at Cultural University.
During the function S.N Chand Lifetime Achievement Award for extraordinary contribution to Manipuri Cinema were given to producer/director Thoudam Dorendro for his contribution in Manipuri cinema.
Basantakumar Wangkhem Lifetime Achievement Award for Artistic Excellence was given to yesteryear’s melody queen Chontham Kamla.
L. Daojee Sharma Lifetime Achievement Award for Technical Excellence was given to pioneer technician Laimayum Surjakanta.
Award winning film professionals like Haobam Paban for his film Loktak Lairembee (Lady of Lake), O. Doren for My name is Eeooow, Meena Longjam for her film Echo, Bobo Khuraijam for his film Ima Sabitri, Renuka Soraisam fir her film Song from Mapao and Wanglen Khundongbam for his film Pallepham were felicitated during the programme.
During the programme, pioneers who have contributed their valuable services in Manipuri Cinema were fondly remembered by paying floral tribute to the departed souls.
The programme was also attended by K. Sushila secretary Manipuri State Film Society, Ch. Dilip Singh Commissioner Art and Culture as guests of honour.
